Dr Akim Kassim obtained the degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBCHB, 1992) from the Ogun State University, Nigeria.  Thereafter, he underwent his basic psychiatric training at Guys, Kings and St Thomas’s Training Scheme in Psychiatry and successfully completed his Membership Examination in 2002, leading to the award of Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych). 

His Higher Specialist Training  in Psychiatry was at the South London and Maudsley Foundation NHS Trust with four years valuable experience at HMP Brixton as part of special experience, Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit, General Adult and Older Adult Psychiatry. He has written several reports in criminal and civil proceedings . 

Dr Akim Kassim has an Approved Clinician status and  he is approved by the Secretary of State under Section 12 (2) of the Mental Health Act 1983 as having specialist experience in the assessment and the treatment of mental disorder.

In recognition of his contributions to the values of the Royal College of Psychiatrist, he was received into the fellowship of the College in October 2020. 

Dr Akim Kassim’s 28 years experience in healthcare is very diverse, with experience in physical, psychological and social aspects of care. He is a great believer in compassion in care. He has been an NHS consultant for approximately 13 years, with extensive experience in clinical care and leadership. He is a teacher, author and has publications to his credit.
